This document contains proposals for definitions of minimum performance parameters (MPPs) and associated acceptance values (AAVs) for DNA extraction, nucleic acid amplification techniques and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis. Attention has been paid to minimize bias toward sectors represented in DECATHLON (foodborne pathogens, genetically modified organisms, and taxed products and endangered species). This is true for MPPs as well as for AAVs. 

The 3rd round of expert webinars of the Decathlon project has been completed. The expert webinar series is a part of knowledge exchange with stakeholders in the project. The inputs of external project stakeholders to the proposed solutions and their broader inputs to the applicability of the proposed solutions are essential to the project.

The 2nd round of expert webinars of the Decathlon project has been completed. The expert webinars is a part of knowledge exchange with stakeholders in the project. · “WP3 - Improved detection of food pathogens expert feedback” – two-hour webinar on the 2nd of December, 2015;

The number of authorized GMOs has increased over time and with that the required number of analyses with qPCR has also increased. This increase in number of analyses is making the detection and quantification of GMOs in different samples more and more expensive. To address the issue of cost effectiveness, new multiplex ddPCR methods were developed within the Decathlon project. The performance parameters of the new multiplex methods were evaluated according to the MPPs set in Deliverable D6.1.

The first round of Decathlon´s stakeholder consultation actions has been successfully conducted. One of the aims of stakeholders’ involvement is to gather their views and opinions on the methods currently being developed within the project, thus understanding better if the work of Decathlon is in alignment with the needs and wishes of the relevant key actors that will use the Decathlon results.

Cost-efficiency matters through all stages in the life of an analytical method: development, validation and application. Minimum performance parameters (MPPs) and associated acceptance values (AAVs) are the solution to optimize this cost-efficiency.
